Developing a Design System
At Opportunity at Work, I led the creation of a scalable design system for connect.starsight.org, supporting a data-driven platform that connects STARs (Skilled Through Alternative Routes) to career opportunities. The system included accessible UI components, responsive grid structures, and reusable patterns aligned with WCAG standards—streamlining collaboration between design and engineering while ensuring consistency across user flows for workforce partners and job seekers.

Project Overview
To develop a centralized, scalable design system that promotes reusability, ensures UI/UX consistency, and accelerates product development across the enterprise. This initiative addresses the need for modern interface standards while enabling modular microservices to support evolving business use cases.
Problem Statement:
-
Inconsistent UI Across Product Experiences: No design system, multiple teams were building UI components independently, leading to inconsistent layouts, visual styles, and user interactions across the platform.
- Slow Design-to-Development Handoff: Without a shared library or systemized tokens, handoffs between designers and developers were time-consuming and error-prone, often requiring redundant explanations or QA cycles.

Starsight Universe Design System
This design system was created to power the connect.starsight.org platform, ensuring visual consistency, accessibility, and development efficiency across multiple product touchpoints. The system was built in Figma with close collaboration between product, engineering, and brand stakeholders.
